Mike Smith

hails from Houston, TX originally.  He maintains that the principle inspiration in his life has been his father, who never backed down from anything.  Musically, though, his chief influences his high school friend, Brett Morrow, whose musicianship and brilliant showmanship Mike holds in high esteem.  Mike took piano lessons for one and a half years beginning when he was 12.  Other than that he is a self taught drummer, which he picked up when he was about 35.  Mike’s diverse performing background includes experience in theater as an actor and technician in numerous productions from high school to college and in community theatre as well.  His musical experience is comprised by his association in three bands:  Fat Chance (1995-1996), Doc’s Myth (2000-2003), and now Rabb Rodriguez Y Los Killa Hogs (2003-present).  Mike’s recording experience covers three CD’s.  The first, a seven song compilation released in 2002 with Doc’s Myth at Arlyn Studios in Austin; some solo work at Fire Station Studios in San Marcos; and currently a five song CD (soon to be released) and demo with the Killa Hogs at Wire Recording in Austin.  A few of Mike’s most unforgettable performance memories include playing in the annual 4th of July parade in Wimberley; performing at the Outback Saloon where he proposed to his wife as part of the routine; the first time he played at Steamboat in Austin; his initial engagement at The Vibe in Austin, and playing at the historical Antone’s in Austin as part of a benefit recently with the Killa Hogs.  Another unique occasion for Mike was performing at the International Wheel Chair Fencing Tournament Awards Banquet in Austin held in 2003.  Aside from his musical career, Mike enjoys working with children, learning new skills by reading “How To” books, woodworking, adding to his extensive movie collection, and best to him, spending time with his wife, son, and their close friends.
